Luxury Tented Camps

A tented camp is not a compromise. The best Kenyan camps offer four-poster beds, deep baths, private decks overlooking a waterhole and food that would not be out of place in a London restaurant, all under canvas, with the sounds of the bush a few feet away.

What distinguishes a good camp is not thread count but position and philosophy. A camp beside a river crossing, a camp in a conservancy where only its own vehicles may drive, a camp with only six tents and a guide who has worked the same valley for fifteen years, these are the things that change a safari.

We work with a deliberately small list of camps across the Maasai Mara, Amboseli, Samburu and Laikipia, chosen for guiding quality, location and the way guests are looked after. We have stayed in all of them, usually more than once.

At the top of the market, expect private plunge pools, butler service and exclusive-use villas. Mid-range camps in Kenya are still excellent, en-suite, comfortable and well run, and often represent the best value on the market.
