This itinerary suits travellers who want a genuinely wild safari without the crowds of the northern circuit. Amboseli gives you the classic image, great elephant herds beneath the snows of Kilimanjaro, while Tsavo West and the Chyulu Hills offer volcanic landscapes, lava caves and a sense of scale that few other Kenyan parks can match.
Amboseli's elephants have been studied continuously for more than fifty years, and the herds are exceptionally relaxed around vehicles. You will spend long periods with family groups, watching calves and the great old bulls carrying the largest tusks remaining in Africa.
We finish with a night in the Chyulu Hills, a private conservation area of rolling green hills with magnificent views across to Kilimanjaro. It is a fitting and quiet end to the trip, and a place most visitors to Kenya never see.

Day 1
Arrival in Nairobi
Met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. An early night before tomorrow's flight south.

Day 2
Fly to Amboseli
A morning flight to Amboseli, with Kilimanjaro filling the horizon as you descend. Game drive en route to camp and an afternoon drive among the elephant herds of the Enkongo Narok swamp.

Day 3
Elephants and the mountain
A full day in Amboseli. Dawn drive for the best chance of a clear view of Kilimanjaro, then the swamps and open plains for elephant, buffalo, hippo and outstanding birdlife.

Day 4
Across to Tsavo West
Drive east into Tsavo West, a vast volcanic landscape of lava flows, red earth and baobab. Afternoon visit to Mzima Springs, where a submerged viewing chamber reveals hippo and crocodile beneath the surface.

Day 5
Tsavo West and the rhino sanctuary
Morning game drive in the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary, one of Kenya's most important rhino protection areas. Afternoon at leisure before an evening drive.

The Chyulu Hills
A scenic drive into the private Chyulu Hills conservation area, rolling green hills, ancient volcanic cones and uninterrupted views to Kilimanjaro. Walking and horse riding can be arranged.

Return to Nairobi and departure
A final morning in the hills, then a flight back to Nairobi with a day room held before your evening international departure.
